Poland 2010 - Day 5 - Krakow

Paul and I both agreed the best part of Krakow for us was the main market square.

The square, "The Rynek" was laid out in 1257 after the Mongol hordes swept through Krakow. At two hundred metres squared, it became the largest market place in Europe. It really is vast - and beautiful - to say the least. Some of the great dramas of Poland's history were played out here.

One restuarant not far from the town square had an outdoor cafe with dining singer sewing machine tables (my mother would have loved it).

Feeding pigeons and our face, sight-seeing statues - the one below is of Adam Michiewicz, a famous romantic Polish poet from the 19th century, and cruising the flea markets -

Several blocks away is Wawel Castle. Much of it was closed by the time we made it there, but we were able to enjoy a hike up the belltower and it's magnificent views of the city.

And of course, in the belltower there is a bell where it's fabled that if you touch it's "dong" (hmm... the connotations), and make a wish, of course your wish will come true : )
