After touching down in Krakow, we rented a car and headed for Czestochowa, where Poland's holiest relic resides, a painting of the Black Madonna. We were very fortunate to not only actually see the painting (as it is only unveiled at certain times of the day), but also unexpectedly arrived at a time when they were just starting a mass in English in a small chapel where the painting hangs admit thousands of strings of amber in every color imaginable.
Nick told me that Gosia and Kasia made a pilgrimage on foot from their home in the southern-most part of poland to this church; parishes along the way welcomed them with dinner and an offered stay.
We got into Gliwice late that evening to the Hotel Diamond, where Nick lives and we would meet up with him the next day.
